Improved road links between Moldova and Romania

The European Commission is providing three grants worth almost EUR 45 million to support the modernisation of transport links between Moldova and Romania. The projects will upgrade the connections which have been in use since Russia's blockade of Ukraine's Black Sea ports. The routes are part of the TEN-T network.

In Romania, 18 km of road will be renewed to improve customs services at the Ungheni border crossing. Moldova will construct a new access road and a border-crossing station.

Infrastructure on both sides of the Albița-Leușeni border crossing will also be upgraded. The final project will extend parking facilities in Giurgiulești (Moldova) and procure customs control equipment. (ben)
