Il-76 cargo plane probably shot down in Sudan
An Ilyushin Il-76 freighter of New Way Cargo, which is headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah (UAE), but has strong ties to Kyrgyzstan, crashed on 21 October in North Darfur, Sudan. Further to the Aviation Safety Network, it departed its home base and headed to Amdjarass (Chad), but came down near Al Mahla, where it was completely incinerated, killing five crew members, two Russian and three Sudanese nationals.
A commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have been fighting against the Sudanese military since April 2023, claimed to have shot down the aircraft using missiles.
In this case, he would have mistaken it for an Egyptian Antonov and shot down an allied aircraft, because, according to the Sudan War Monitor platform, it has flown in weapons for the RSF several times in recent months. (ah)
