Ikea's Indian itinerary

Ikea is expanding in the Indian market with the help of Rhenus Group, a logistics provider with an established local network. More specifically, the furnishing company is aiming for growth in the Dehli National Capital Region.

Growing demand for high-end real estate in places like Gurugam, Noida, and Dehli makes India’s capital region of particular interest to Ikea. For this reason, Ikea and Rhenus India are basing their operations out of a 13,935 sqm warehouse in Gurugam. From here, they can access India’s furniture market – the world’s fourth largest – as well as rail, road, and air channels.

The hub features a storage capacity for 7,000 products as well as Rhenus Group’s own WMS. The companies plan to simplify distribution and last-mile logistics with the aid of e-commerce solutions. Rhenus and Ikea have been working together in Europe for over 40 years and now look forward to building a presence in the rapidly changing Indian market. (mk)
