IDS benefits from private customers
With a 3% rise to 13.8 million consignments, the general cargo cooperation IDS Logistik has expanded its business for the sixth year in succession. With a growth rate of 12%, the private customer segment was particularly successful in 2018. Turnover rose by 8.9% to EUR 2.1 billion.
Overall, the lack of drivers and the ensuing substantial cost increases for transport companies, especially in short-distance traffic, had a negative impact on the result. Higher road tolls as well as the extension of the toll network as from 1 January 2019 will show their full effect only in the financial result of 2019.
DS remains optimistic for the current year, however. "Based on the high cargo volumes in January and February we have raised our forecast for our throughput in the domestic general cargo business by 4 to 5% for this year. For exports we are expecting a more restrained development," says CEO Michael Bargl. (mw)
