ICS2 to come into force in June

The European Union is introducing a new process for goods entering its territory by maritime and inland waterways, road, and rail.

The new customs pre-arrival safety and security system, called Import Control System 2 (ICS2), will require carriers to provide data on goods sent to or through the EU prior to their arrival, by filling in an entry summary declaration, which will come into force on 3 June 2024.

It will also apply to postal and express carriers that transport goods using these modes of transport as well as other parties, such as logistics providers. The new system will extend safety and security data reporting requirements, the EU said. Similar requirements are already in force for air freight. (ben)
