Icao: major trends in January 2022
World freight traffic reported a growth of 2.7% in January 2022 (compared to 2019), 6.2 percentage points down from the increase in the previous month. The softening was broad-based across all regions, particularly in Asia/Pacific, North America, and Latin America/Caribbean.
Africa recorded a relatively similar improvement in December 2021, while the Middle East posted the weakest performance among all regions.
In terms of freight, the top 15 airports reported an increase of 9.9%, compared to 2019. Over half of the top 15 airports showed double digit growth, with Chicago recording the strongest surge at a robust 55.0%. Hong Kong retained its pole position, albeit with a decline of 1.2%. Dubai continued to post declines for the fifth consecutive month. (cj)
