Hydrogen-powered crew transfer vessel
FRS Windcat Offshore Logistics has introduced the 'Hydrocat 55', Germany’s first hydrogen-powered dual-fuel crew transfer vessel (CTV), for 50 Hertz operations in the Baltic Sea.
Developed in partnership with Cmb.tech, the vessel is equipped with a hydrogen injection system that significantly reduces CO2 and NOx emissions. The 'Hydrocat 55' can carry 24 passengers and two -three crew members, with a hydrogen tank capacity of 207 kg. It ensures flexibility and safety while operating with reduced diesel consumption.
The vessel’s trial period will commence in January 2024, focusing on integrating hydrogen propulsion in maritime logistics. With no fundamental changes to the main engine, maintenance is easy, and the vessel can also revert to diesel fuel if required. (pb)
