The IT specialist and digital solutions provider Marlink has achieved a milestone by integrating over 3,200 low earth orbit (LEO) terminals into hybrid networks or deploying them as standalone solutions. This integration caters to the growing need for high throughput, low latency services for both crew welfare and business operations in the maritime industry.
Companies like Thenamaris, Polembros Shipping, and Sun Enterprises have adopted Marlink’s Sealink NextGen solution, combining LEO systems from Starlink or Eutelsat OneWeb with VSAT, 4G/5G, and terrestrial fibre services.
This hybrid network approach supports advanced digital technologies and addresses the rising cyber threats, with Marlink's security operations centre reporting an increase in high severity incidents. The trend towards managed network solutions reflects the industry's focus on maintaining critical communications and ensuring robust cyber security amid the digital transition. (pb)
