Hybrid locomotives for more efficient transport
Germany’s VTG Rail Logistics and the European Loc Pool (ELP) have signed their first long-term full-service leasing contract for up to four EuroDual locomotives. The hybrid locomotives will be operated by VTG subsidiary Retrack on selected strategic corridors.
The hybrid EuroDual locomotive is well-suited for heavy freight train services along diesel routes, and in shunting areas (first and last miles). It can pull up to 30% more tonnage than existing electric and diesel locomotives. The hybrid mode also makes it possible to reduce CO2 emissions.
Thus the EuroDual locomotives offer considerable economic and logistics as well as ecological advantages, VTG said. The first locomotives will be delivered to Retrack in the first quarter of 2021. (ben)
