Hupac: standing up for combined transport
Swiss combined transport operator Hupac shipped 1,104,000 road consignments in combined road/rail and seaport-hinterland services last year. This is 1.8% less than in 2021.
Economic slowdowns, price increases and persistent capacity bottlenecks on the Rhine-Alpine corridor have had a negative impact on business. Whether combined transport can maintain or even expand its position in the market depends primarily on the transport policy framework.
Hupac itself intends to continue investing in the network, IT systems and terminals. In the planned large terminal in Milan-Smistamento (Italy), sea freight from Asia arriving in the Italian ports will be loaded onto rail and transported to the European hinterland. (ben)
