Hupac: more subsidies for intermodal traffic
Two years after the opening of the Gotthard base tunnel in Switzerland, it is now obvious that only some of the expected productivity improvements for transalpine intermodal transport can be achieved despite enhanced train parameters.
The Swiss intermodal service provider Hupac expects that only half of the current operating costs - around CHF 110 million for all transalpine intermodal traffic through Switzerland - can be compensated for when the federal government's subsidies expire as planned in 2024.
At Hupac’s annual press conference, the chairman of the board of directors, Hans-Jörg Bertschi, demanded that the country continue to provide operation subsidies for intermodal transport until about 2030. (ben)
