Hong Kong welcomes first European-made e-truck
Scania’s 24-t e-truck was acquired by DFI’s Wellcome Supermarket chain. It is expected to reduce around 538 t of carbon emissions over a decade, equivalent to the annual carbon absorption by about 24,710 trees.
Wellcome plans to add a second e-truck to its fleet in Hong Kong later this year. It is the first retail company in the city to adopt such vehicles. The initiative is part of its sustainability strategy that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by half by 2030 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Wellcome recently installed an extensive solar panel system at its fresh food centre to support the transition to renewable fuels. (ben)
