HKIA: sharp decline in cargo throughput
Air cargo volumes remain impacted by global economic uncertainties. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the world's biggest air cargo hub, handled 347,000 t of air freight in April, marking a year-on-year decline of 7.7%, with import cargo volumes falling by 24%.
Traffic to and from key trading regions in Southeast Asia and Taiwan saw the most significant decreases during the month. Cargo volume dropped by 6.7% to 1.3 million t over the first four months of 2023. On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput declined by 16.4% to 4.1 million t. (ah)
