Historic moment for Jaxport
The Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport), Florida’s No. 1 container port by volume and one of the USA’s major vehicle-handling ports, set a new port record with the arrival of the vessel “One Stork”, the largest container ship to ever call Jacksonville.
This vessel is operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE) within the Alliance network of ocean carriers. The Alliance is a strategic partnership between ONE, Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, and Yang Ming.
For Ron DeSantis, Florida’s governor, “One Stork” is “the first of nine larger vessels that will call Jaxport weekly through the EC5 container service operated by the Alliance.”
“This historic moment signifies the ongoing growth and progress of our community’s economic development,” said Jaxport’s Jacksonville City council liaison Ron Salem.
For Florida department of transportation (FDOT) secretary Jared W. Perdue, the arrival of the vessel with a carrying capacity of 14,000 teu (containers) “helped secure Florida’s reputation as a major location for transportation and supply chain capabilities.” (lh)
