Historic moment for APM Terminals Apapa
The Singapore-flagged “Kota Cantik”, which is operated and managed by Pacific International Lines (PIL), recently called at APM Terminals Apapa (Nigeria), in the Lagos Port Complex Apapa. It is the largest container ship ever to visit this port. “Kota Cantik” is a 6,606 teu containership with a draught of 11.6 m, length overall (LOA) of 300 m and a beam of 40 m.
“We are ready for 350 to 400 m vessels in Lagos Pilotage District,” said Daniel Osiakagum, harbour master for Lagos Pilotage District.
This historic moment was witnessed by officials of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), PIL and APM Terminals Apapa. Terminal manager, APM Terminals Apapa, Steen Knudsen commented: “Bigger vessels like the Kota Cantik are more environmentally friendly and contribute to lowering the total emissions of the shipping industry.” (lh)
