Higher tolls to increase costs by 12%

The European Freight Association of International Road Hauliers (Elvis) believes that the economic problems of Germany’s transport industry will worsen in the coming months – even if business begins to pick up in the autumn as it usually does.

As one of the main causes for concern, Elvis cites the road toll increases that are planned for December, which involve a hike of 83% in the prominent category. Depending on the deployment scenario, road haulage costs could increase by up to 12%. Rising costs will be accompanied by declining revenues, the association adds.

One indicator of this development is the number of truck toll kilometres driven, which fell by 6.6% in Q2/2023 compared to Q1/2023 and by 2.5% compared to Q2/2022. (ben)
