Hi Fly reveals the big freight secret
As announced two months ago, it is now known for which airline Lufthansa Technik has (for the time being) converted A380 to aircraft with maindeck capacity: Hi Fly, a wet lease and charter specialist from Portugal, has created extra cargo capacity by temporarily removing economy seats of some of its aircraft, including the iconic A380 "Save the Coral Reefs", which has already flown around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic, to meet the temporarily high demand during the current crisis.
The Hi Fly A380-800 is now able to offer more than 300 cbm of volume capacity and close to 60 t of cargo. In its traditional passenger design, an A380 can load around 175 cbm and 13 t of freight. (ah)
