HGK buys up NVG
Logistics group Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln (HGK) Shipping is expanding its presence in Germany and the Benelux countries.
At the turn of the year, HGK Shipping acquired the shares of all minority shareholders at the Niedersächsische Verfrachtungsgesellschaft (NVG).
Within HGK Shipping, NVG is part of the dry shipping business unit. It has a fleet of seven company vessels, two of which are compound formations, and twelve privately-owned or rented ships.
NVG's vessels transport around 2 million t of freight - animal fodder, building materials and project cargo such as wind turbines, among others - mainly on canals in western Germany but also on the Rhine waterway into the ARA ports and as far as Hamburg. Besides inland shipping, NVG also provides cargo handling and storage and pre- and post-carriage services in combined transport. (cd)
