Helrom flags off its first Brenner train

The German intermodal transport specialist has introduced a 560 km long train route connecting Regensburg (Germany) with Verona (Italy) via Austria’s Brenner Pass. The service will reduce CO2 emissions by 90% compared to road haulage and marks the company’s first entry into this European transport axis through the Alps. Initially, the new train will run with four roundtrips per week.

The technology requires no specialised terminals for barrier-free intermodal transport solutions, which allows freight forwarders and shippers to move trailers by rail without additional investment. This makes railfreight accessible to all customers. The trains can also carry non-craneable trailers and time-critical goods, Helrom said. (ben)
