Heavy handling in Liege
Located in the Autonomous Port of Liège, Belgium, the company Renory, a subsidiary of the Novandi group, has been entrusted with the exceptional delivery of more than 32,000 t of steel coils from India. The shipper is Liberty Steel.
Having passed through the seaport of Antwerp, all this cargo was shipped by various barges to Liège via the Albert canal and the Meuse, including convoys with a capacity of around 5,700 t. It would have taken nearly 1,600 trucks to transport the cargo from Antwerp to Liège.
The delivery of these steel coils to Liège ended on 29 April. In total, seven barges, including four of 5,700 t, were involved in the transport. Emile-Louis Bertrand, director general of the Autonomous Port of Liège, said: “Our policy is to promote the modal shift from the roads to the waterways.” (cd)
