Hawk and Hercules help, drones disrupt
After the entire province of Lower Austria was declared a disaster area due to heavy rain and flooding, the Austrian Armed Forces were called upon to provide assistance. Two Black-Hawk S-70 helicopters in Langenlebarn and two AB-212 helicopters in Linz are also on standby.
Lockheed C-130 Hercules are delivering sandbags and relief supplies. By 17 September, 300 t of sandbags and big bags had been transported by helicopters and aircraft.
The air force is urging the public to refrain from using private drones in flooded areas, as they jeopardise the safety of its aircraft. (ah)
