Haropa growing globally, but lifting lighter boxes

Haropa, an entity formed by the three French ports Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, is continuing to grow.

This week in Paris, Haropa’s three director generals (from l.) Nicolas Occis (port of Rouen), Régine Brehier (port of Paris) and Hervé Martel (port of Le Havre) told the ITJ that the overall throughput handled in 2018 set a new record for the second time in succession: the 94.74 million t of seafreight traffic represents a 2% increase vis-à-vis 2017, and inland shipping volumes jumped by 4.5% to 22.1 million t.

Also for the second time on the run, the most westerly port in Europe’s northern range lifted over 3 million teu, with hinterland connections becoming increasingly important. On the down side, the weight of the containerised freight sank by 1% to 28.75 million t. (ah)
