Haropa continues to thrive at the start of 2019
Good figures for Haropa at the start of 2019: After two years’ growth in 2017 and 2018 when the port cooperation's seaborne traffic rose to 95 million t, business continued to thrive at the beginning of 2019.
With a throughput of 40 million t at the end of May, Haropa's seaborne trade recorded an overall increase of 5.1%. This improvement can be explained by the momentum of container, dry bulk and liquid bulk trades. With a rise of 4%, container trade grew to 1.2 million teu or 12 million t.
The strong increase in river traffic by an overall 55% is also significant (this figure dates from the end of April). April was a record month: the best month for more than five years in this trade, both in tonnes and teu. This rise is mainly due to hinterland traffic (+3.2%) in Le Havre and particularly hinterland full container traffic (+2.4%). Transhipment traffic also increased (+10%). (kd)
