Hapag-Lloyd makes the best of it
Hapag-Lloyd celebrated its 175th anniversary last year. It has now reported its financial results for this special year, on the basis of preliminary figures.
In 2022, revenues rose to USD 36.4 billion (2021: EUR 34.5 billion), due to a high average freight rate of USD 2,863 per teu (2021: 2,003 USD/teu). Freight rates had however gone down significantly by the end of the year.
Ebitda also grew to USD 20.5 billion (EUR 19.4 billion), and ebit increased to USD 18.5 billion (EUR 17.5 billion). Yet, on-going disruptions in global supply chains and inflation led to a significant rise in costs. Transport volumes in 2022 roughly remained on the level of 2021, at 11.8 million teu (2021: 11.9 million teu).
Hapag-Lloyd will publish its 2022 Annual Report with the audited financial figures including its future outlook on 2 March 2023. (sh)
