Hapag-Lloyd holds its course in 2020
Hapag-Lloyd's transport volumes of passed the threshold of 3 million teu in Q1/2020 (3.053 million teu), a 4.8 % increase compared to Q1/2019, freight rates went up by USD 15 per teu from USD 1,079 to USD 1,094.
Altogether, the first quarter of 2020 was friendly to the Hamburg carrier: revenues rose by USD 206 million to USD 3,684 billion (+5.9% yoy), other key figures remained stable. Ebitda decreased slightly to USD 517 million (EUR 469 million) and the group net result declined to approximately USD 27 million (EUR 25 million).
Rolf Habben Jansen, chief executive officer of Hapag-Lloyd, spoke of a “good start" in 2020 and continued that in view of Q2/2020 "we have taken a wide range of measures designed to save an amount in the mid-triple-digit million range to safeguard our profitability and liquidity."
Nevertheless, the carrier continues to expect an ebitda of EUR 1.7 to 2.2 billion and an ebit of EUR 0.5 to 1.0 billion for the current financial year. (mw)
