Hapag-Lloyd deploys more vessels in the East Med
Hapag-Lloyd will change its Levante Express Service (LEX) as from next year. As from the second calendar week in 2020, Hapag-Lloyd will add one additional vessel to the LEX service to ensure improved schedule reliability during the upcoming winter months.
Hapag-Lloyd introduced the service calling at ports in Italy, Turkey and Egypt, originally at the ports of Cagliari, Damietta and Port Said. Since August 2018, the rotation of the LEX Service has been calling at the Italian ports of Genoa – Livorno – Civitavecchia – Salerno – Cagliari – Alexandria and Damietta in Egypt – Beirut (Lebanon) – Iskenderun, Mersin and Aliaga (Turkey) – Piraeus (Greece) – Genoa.
The rotation of the service will remain unchanged. The Levante Express (LEX), to be operated with three vessels with a capacity of approximately 1,400 TEU each. The port rotation will be: Cagliari, Alexandria, Damietta, Port Said (Egypt), Mersin, Izmir, Cagliari, Genoa, Livorno, Naples, Salerno and Cagliari again.
With this measure, they will be a total number of five vessels deployed in the Levante Express Service (LEX). The first sailing of the additional vessel “Berlin Bridge” will start on 8 January 2020. The vessel has an overall container capacity of 4,500 teu and is currently operated by K Line. (fd)
