Hapag-Lloyd closing the case
What started off well in September 2022 has now come to a close. The antitrust authorities have given their green light with regards to Hapag-Lloyd’s acquisition of a minority stake in the Spinelli Group based in Genova.
The carrier has acquired 49% of the shares in the Italian terminal and transport operator. The remaining 51% of the shares in the corporate group remain in the hands of the Spinelli family. No financial details of the transaction were disclosed.
Like other shipping companies, Hapag-Lloyd is expanding its investment in the terminal sector, most recently through an agreement to acquire a stake in the terminal business of Chile-based SM SAAM.
In addition to the now completed investment in the Italy-based Spinelli Group, Hapag-Lloyd also has stakes in Jade Weser Port in Wilhelmshaven, the Container Terminal Altenwerder in Hamburg, Terminal TC3 in Tangier, and Terminal 2 in Damietta, Egypt, which is currently under construction. (sh)
