Hamburg Süd launches insurance tool
Maersk’s affiliate Hamburg Süd has introduced "Value Protect", a new solution for shippers offering them additional protection in the event of cargo damage. The shipping company speaks of a complement to its existing inland transports and customs services, where it already provides important auxiliary services for container transports.
Besides risks such as fire, theft and shipping accidents, the new product includes insurance against "damage due to ship delays". In an economic environment in which vessel delays are at a peak - for which shippers blame the carriers - this sounds ironic. “Value Project” offers an "extended liability" to cover such risks.
Philip Oetker, global head of sales and marketing at Hamburg Süd, adds that customers can select "a suitable package for dry, refrigerated or special cargo." (cd)
