Hamburg Port rebounds in Q3/2023
The Port of Hamburg experienced a modest rebound in container throughput in Q3/2023, with a 2.4% rise to two million teu compared to Q3/2022.
This recovery, particularly highlighted by record US traffic and a resurgence in Asia trade, marks a positive shift from the 7.4% decline over the first nine months. Despite a 5.6% decrease in total cargo handling from January to September, bulk cargo remained stable.
Ship arrivals increased, notably for very large and megamax container vessels. Rail transport of containers has partly recovered, indicating a stabilising hinterland traffic despite a slight decrease.
Future impacts on annual results remain uncertain due to challenging global conditions and revised economic growth forecasts. (pb)
