GW continues upward trend
Gebrüder Weiss (GW), based in Austria, closed 2022 with a turnover of EUR 3.01 billion, 18% up from 2021, and thus continued the positive trend of recent years, the logistics company said. The land transport division posted EUR 1,479 million in sales (+16%).
The home delivery service performed at last year’s level, delivering some 1.53 million shipments to private households in Austria and Eastern Europe. Major progress was reported by the air & sea segment, which closed 2022 with sales at EUR 1,272 million - a plus of 24%.
This surge was driven mainly by the high freight rates of shipping companies and airlines. DPD Austria, which is partly owned by the GW parcel service, was able to sustain its volumes, shipping 66 million parcels in 2022. GW adhered to its investment strategy despite economic challenges last year.
A total of EUR 67 million were used to consolidate the company’s own network and augment its international locations and services. The main focus was on markets in Germany, Hungary, Romania, and USA, along with Turkey and Georgia. (ben)
