Guyana Port names its first dredger

Damen Shipyards Group has supplied a CSD 350 cutter suction dredger to Guyana Port, including floating pipelines, spare parts, commissioning and crew training.

The dredger will support port expansion efforts by deepening key shipping channels in the Demerara River to ensure safe navigation and facilitate larger vessel access. The CSD 350 will also deepen areas of the port of Georgetown, to match international standards and to enable the port to build more shore-based facilities.

As Guyana Port’s first dredger, the CSD 350 enhances maritime infrastructure amid growing trade and vessel traffic linked, “following the expanding oil and gas industry,” as Bram van der Plas said in a media release. Damen field engineers commissioned the dredger now operating under the name ‘Mud Shredder’. (js)
