Growth development is two years ahead
Container transportation by rail between Europe and China is growing even more strongly than predicted by UTLC ERA, the operator that is responsible for 90% of all Eurasian transit freight.
The reasons for the boom are complex: sea transport suffered various setbacks in H1/2021, the cost of transportation by ship increased fourfold, while transport costs by rail remained stable. Rail service providers are developing new logistics solutions, driving digitalisation and adapting the infrastructure to the anticipated growth.
UTLC ERA expects to see another 20% increase in the last months of 2021 alone, meaning that the growth rate is two years ahead of UTLC ERA’s forecasts. (ben)
