Green light for dredging at Rijeka

In the Croatian Port of Rijeka, a contract for the dredging of the south berth at Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) has been signed.

The works, an investment of HRK 78 million (EUR 10.3 million) also supported by European for the project (POR2CORE-AGCT dredging), will include seabed deepening at a length of 100 m and bring the operative depth of AGCT to a total of 428 m.

With the works concluded, the largest vessels calling the Adriatic, e.g. with a capacity of 15,000 teu, can reduce berthing/unberthing time at AGCT.

Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT CEO, added: “We have another project with CEF to further dredge to 16.5 m, which will allow the next generation of larger vessels to be handled.”

Following a successful 2019 with a growth rate of 20%, AGCT recorded 15% growth in overall volumes during the first five months of 2020, despite the challenging times of the Covid 19 pandemic. (mw)
