Green Finnlines ships serving Bilbao
Three ships from Finnlines, a part of the Grimaldi Group, are now calling at the Bilbao Port in Spain on a weekly basis. Eco-friendly and efficient, the vessels are part of the Finneco series and connect Bilbao with ports in various countries, such as Belgium, Finland, Estonia, the UK, Sweden, and Norway through Zeebrugge.
The “Finneco I, II, and III” are hybrid eco-class ro-ro vessels and come equipped with advanced technology, including lithium battery systems, solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and an innovative air lubrication system, all reducing emissions and environmental impact.
The ships have a load capacity of up to 420 semi-trailers or 2,500 vehicles, accommodating general cargo, including wind turbine components. They offer flexibility with dedicated car decks and a temperature-controlled area for various cargo types.
During a presentation event, the president of the Port Authority of Bilbao, Ricardo Barkala, emphasised the Grimaldi Group's commitment to sustainability and innovation in maritime transport, aligning with Bilbao Port's environmental and energy transition goals. (pb)
