Greeks in front, Clarkson says
According to Clarksons, Greek shipowners are still taking the lead in international shipping. About 16.4% of global tonnage on the water are in the hands of Greek owners, although national Greek imports / exports account for 1% of global seaborne trade.
Yet, Greek shipping companies have retained their remarkable scale adding 29 million gross to reach 247 million gross t or 417 million dwt on the water. Their share in the global LNG fleet has grown above average, up to 21% today. Nevertheless, there may be an end to the story, since their newbuild orderbook came down to only 6% of their fleet, its lowest ratio in 20 years. (sh)
