Greek buyers lead capesize surge

Dry bulk shipping values are on the rise, with capesize earnings reaching the highest seasonal levels since 2010, Veson reports. The sector has seen substantial value increases in all ages and size categories, particularly in the capesize and supramax segments.

For instance, 20-year-old capesize vessels have seen a value increase of around 39.6%, while newly delivered supramaxes have risen by approximately 12.6%. The bulker sale and purchase market has been buoyant, with a 35% year-on-year increase. Greek buyers are notably active, particularly in the capesize segment.

The surge in values is attributed to robust earnings and factors such as the Chinese trade exceeding expectations and disruptions in the Suez Canal leading to longer shipping routes. Notable recent sales include the capesize “Shin Koryu” and the supramax “BC Bulk Monaco”. (pb)
