Greater cargo focus in Greater Bay Area
John Menzies is giving cargo a greater focus and expanding its geographical footprint. The global aviation services business based in Edinburgh, Scotland, has agreed a GBP 3.4 million (EUR 3.9 million) investment to acquire a minority equity stake, by way of a joint venture, in Guangzhou JFreight Aviation Logistics Supply Chain.
The provider of artificial intelligence and robotics has created a smart terminal with an electronic interaction point with Chinese customs at Baiyun International Airport (CAN), one of the world’s busiest airports.
The JV will see Menzies manage and operate the new terminal (annual capacity: 120,000 t) on behalf of JFreight. The initial focus will be on the handling of products related to the Chinese e-commerce market with the potential to expand into more general air cargo handling. (ah)
