Great Lake Dredge & Dock working on Texas coast

As a further step towards implementation of the port of Corpus Christ’s channel project, the US Army Corps of Engineers (Usace) has awarded a USD 92 million construction contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company.

Its task will be to deepen and widen the Texan port’s ship channel from the Gulf of Mexico to Harbor Island, as part of the overall channel improvement project.

Under the contract, Great Lakes will deepen the fairway from 14.3 m mean lower low water level (MLLW) to 16.5 m MLLW from the jetties at the entrance of the ship channel to Harbor Island and ship channel into the Gulf of Mexico to 17.06 m MLLW.

Over its 128 year history, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock has worked on high-profile projects that include the Deepwater Horizon oil spill clean-up and the deepening of the Port Miami harbour. (kd)
