Good January at Jaxport
The Florida-based Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) had a good start into the year. CEO Eric Green announced that container movements had increased by 16% compared to the same month in 2017. Almost 122,000 teus were handled.
The port’s Asian container volumes continue to show significant growth, up 17% year–to–date, with nearly 164,000 teus moved so far in fiscal year 2019, which runs from 1 October to 30 September. Over the last five years, the port’s Asian trade has increased by an average of 14% annually.
January was also a record month for the port’s throughput of finished vehicles. Nearly 61,500 automobiles moved through Jaxport in January 2019, a double-digit increase compared to January 2018. Altogether, the port’s auto volumes are up 7% year-to-date in fiscal year 2019. (kd)
