Global market recovery continues in September

According to data released by the International Air Transport Association (Iata), global demand, measured in ctk, increased by 1.9% compared to September 2022 levels. Capacity, measured in available ctk, was up by 12.1% compared to September 2022.

Growth was owed largely to international belly capacities, which rose by 31.5% year-on-year, as airlines scaled up operations to meet peak northern summer travel season demand.

Director general Willie Walsh said that “air cargo eked out modest growth in September, despite falling trade volumes and high jet fuel prices [+43% compared to May 2023]. With the key export order and manufacturing purchasing managers indeces [47.7 and 49.7 respectively] hovering near positive territory, we can be cautiously optimistic for a strong year-end peak season.” (ah)
