Global container trade remains bullish
The container throughput index of the RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research and the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) largely as well as surprisingly recovered in December 2018 from its decline in November. It rose from (revised) 134.0 to 135.3 points, close to its previous peak of October 2018.
Overall, global container throughput is quite robust despite the unfavourable news about protectionist measures. The flash estimate for December is based on data from 41 ports, which account for around 70% of the index. The index for January 2019 will be published on 26 February 2019. (kd)
