Girteka to shift more freight from road to rail

The Lithuanian forwarder has launched a daily intermodal service from Sweden to Germany. Operated in cooperation with Samskip, it can be used to transport cargo from Nassjo/Katrineholm in Sweden to Duisburg in Germany. The initiative is expected to reduce CO2 emissions per tonne-mile by almost a factor of four, Girteka said.

The haulier has been offering intermodal services for six years now. It saved over 14.4 million kg of CO2 emissions in 2021, and more than 16.7 million kg in 2022. The group's services cover some 16 million km in the EU, involving around 16,100 fully loaded trailers on rail tracks. (ben)
