Girteka banking on Chereau technology
Decarbonising road haulage is a complex issue. It is not enough to introduce alternative fuels; companies need to cooperate and share their knowledge and best practices.
Although the obvious solution to reduce the road transport sector’s carbon footprint seems to lie in innovative technologies for trucks, there is still potential for refrigerator trailers.
To this end, the Lithuanian forwarder Girteka, which owns almost 8,000 refrigerator trailers and thus dominates the refrigerator market, has now begun to cooperate with manufacturer Chereau.
With the partnership, Girteka is seeking to implement VIP (vacuum insulated panel) technology, which enables gains of about 20% in terms of improving insulation and reducing cooling-unit fuel consumption for long-distance transport. (ben)
