Giant gantry crane inaugurated in Port Guadeloupe
The Grand Port Maritime of Guadeloupe has inaugurated its new generation gantry crane at the Jarry Terminal in Baie-Mahault.
Marie-Luce Penchard, chairman of the port's supervisory board, and Yves Salaün, chairman of the management board, stressed the importance of the new acquisition. The 68 m high crane - known as H4 - weighs 1,280 t and represents another new milestone in the port's development, following on from deepening the access channel from 11 to 15 m.
The EUR 10.2 million investment in the crane reflects the steady increase in vessel size. The development of the Grand Maritime Port of Guadeloupe and its desire to position itself as an international hub were underlined by Hélène Molia-Polifonte, mayor of the city of Baie-Mahault, where Jarry's port facilities are located.
