Getting airports ready for disaster relief
DHL Group is expanding its disaster relief services with the launch of Go Help Europe. This new programme allows the logistics provider to cover disaster hotspots worldwide.
With the increasing number of climate-related floods in Germany and Belgium and the earthquakes in Turkey and Morocco, the need for humanitarian support is growing. A 50-strong disaster response team recently completed a training course at Istanbul International Airport. It focused on optimising movement sequences and mastering pallet assembly/disassembly, particularly for airline pallets, locks, and nets. This team will be deployed to airports once called upon by the UN.
A conference is currently taking place, also in Istanbul, to look back on the performance of the Go Help and Get Airports Ready for Disaster programmes to further improve DHL’s support for responses. (mk)
