Get ready for ICS2
The EU's new import control system (ICS2) for security and risk prevention is entering its next phase, with implementation starting in June for sea freight imports from third countries. Shipping companies must implement the higher ICS2 requirements from 3 June to 4 December 2024, while forwarders wishing to self-declare their shipments can migrate from 4 December 2024. Dakosy will inform about the changes at a free online information event on 10 April 2024.
Companies are advised to prepare early for the more precise and extensive data requirements. The accuracy of the information required for ICS2 submissions has significantly increased. It now must include the complete address of the original sender and final recipient, the six-digit HS code for goods, and the recipient's EORI number.
Collaboration between shipping companies and forwarders for ICS2 submissions is facilitated by a new form called multiple filing, where the shipper submits basic information to the new EU system, and the forwarder provides additional details separately. This approach ensures protection of competition for forwarders by not requiring them to disclose sensitive customer data. (pb)
