Germany and Poland on top of the list
Railfreight transport in the EU decreased by 0.5 % in 2022 compared to 2021. Germany recorded the highest railfreight transport performance in the EU in 2022, and Poland the highest increase from 2021 to 2022.
Fourteen out of 25 EU countries recorded a drop in tonnage transported by rail in 2022 compared to 2021, according to the latest figures of the EU’s statistical office (Eurostat). Railfreight performance on EU-level showed a recovery in all quarters of 2021.
The highest growth rate was recorded in Q2/2021 (+20.5 %). The largest goods category transported by rail in 2022 was ‘metal ores and other mining and quarrying products; peat; uranium and thorium'. (ben)
