Geodis launches train service to Spain

The intermodal operator has introduced a freight train service between Poland and Spain as its first direct rail connection between the two countries. The maiden train, loaded with goods in 44 containers and/or swap bodies, set off from the freight terminal in Lodz and reached Barcelona after just three days.

From Catalonia’s capital, the goods were loaded onto trucks for 'last mile' deliveries by road. According to Geodis, the following trains will also a capacity of 44 units.

The rail route between Lodz and Barcelona, although longer than the road journey by almost 160 km, reduces CO2e emissions by up to 79% and energy consumption by around 57%. Initially, the new train will run once a week. (ben)
