General cargo alliance continues to grow
The German general cargo alliance, Cargo Line, continued to grow strongly in the 2019 financial year. The entity registered a total of 12.8 million outbound shipments (+ 2.6%) and sales of EUR 1.46 billion (+ 2.8%). Domestic traffic grew by 2.5% to 9.75 million shipments, international traffic by 2.7% to 3.05 million. B2C deliveries accounted for 6% of the national volume.
In line with the positive business development, the network partners increased the number of direct truck services to 1,675. 2019 was the year that the alliance set two milestones in the digitalisation field: a new customer portal went online and Cargo Line launched its online freight forwarder Cargoboard. The service primarily targets smaller commercial senders and emerging online retailers. (ben)
