Gefco opts for augmented reality
Gefco has joined forces with Artishock to develop the augmented-reality application “Gefco Enterprise AR”. The new programme is deployed by Gefco Freight Forwarding to improve quality checks and increase productivity in packaging procedures within the cold chain.
The company has already concluded a successful pilot project with Gefco Enterprise AR in the Gefco storage facility in Schiphol (the Netherlands), where some trial runs resulted in a 50% increase in productivity and revealed a range of indirect advantages, including a shortening of training times for employees.
After the pilot phase, the application will be incorporated into the company’s own global network and business segments, in order to open up new options of use for the customers.
Karin van den Brekel, global lead life sciences & healthcare, Gefco, says: “The packaging process is of vital importance, particularly for medicines that we send by air on behalf of our customers to destinations worldwide. Medication requires special packaging with instructions that must be strictly complied with in order to ensure the integrity of the products." (mw)
